No Bake Bars

My friend gave me this recipe for bars. I made a pan last week and they were very good.

3 Tablespoons Butter
2-3 cups of mini-marshmallows
1/2 cup peanut butter
5 cups of Cheerios
1 cup M &M's

Melt the butter and marshmallows in the microwave and stir. Add the other ingredients. Press into a 9x13 greased pan. Cut and enjoy!

Skittles

For all of you cat lovers/owners-I have a question....what is the best way to get a cat to take antibiotics? Skittles and the neighbor's cat like to squabble and Skittles developed an infection on his neck. We took him to the vet and he prescribed Cefa-Drops to be taken daily for 2 weeks. On Saturday my friends Rachel, Jeni and their families drove down from Wabasso to spend the day with us. The kids had a great time playing together. On Sunday, we celebrated dad's 75th birthday at church with refreshments after church and a family dinner in the early afternoon. All of mom's brothers and sisters attended as well as Peta, Lila Lee, Sam, Diane, Lindsy and Terry. It was a very nice party and opportunity to honor a man who always puts his family, faith and friends first. We love you very much!

My wonderful sister-in-law sent me some photos from our recent trip to the Denver area. As you can tell, the girls had a wonderful time with their cousin, Seth. We just returned from dad's birthday party in Jackson. It was a wonderful day and great to see so many friends and family! Have a great week:)

Parents Night 2008

Tonight was Parents Night for the city recreation league (except T-ball, which was last week). I had a great time playing shortstop and even got a few hits. Courtney really enjoyed playing softball this year and it was fun to watch her. Summer activities are winding down. Volleyball starts on Monday and that will run for two weeks. We are going to Jackson on Saturday for dad's birthday. Have a good weekend everyone!!

Brothers that Play Together....

Shelly sent me a picture of Matthew and Jamie in their baseball uniforms that I thought I would share. They played together in a summer league. I borrowed a photo of Warren and Dan from Laurie's blog (thanks, Laurie). I think it is wonderful that the Smith tradition continues on....I'll be playing against Courtney's team tomorrow night as it is Parent's Night. I'm looking forward to dusting off my glove and playing softball:)

We had a great trip back from Kansas---we logged over 2100 miles and 5 states in 7 days! The girls were great travelers-thank goodness....

Trip Update Part 3

We are currently in Missouri Valley, Iowa. We left from Augusta, Kansas around 9:30 last night and drove until 3:00 in the morning. All of the hotels that we stopped in along the way were full. It will be nice to be home....I have a few pictures to post when I get back. Happy Wednesday!

Trip Update Part 2

Eric's high school reunion was a lot of fun. Rene and her friend, Richard took care of the girls for us. It was nice to spend time with her and Seth. We are going to spend the day with Ron and Toni today. Tomorrow we will leave for Augusta, Kansas to visit Eric's second parents, the Steinkamp's. We will drive home from there either Tuesday or Wednesday. Skittles is being taken care of by our friends. He seems to be content in the house, but we miss him! Have a good week everyone:)

A Time of Sadness....

I found out yesterday that a classmate of mine passed away at the young age of 35. Julie Svoboda was a very intelligent, kind person with a good sense of humor. We spent a lot of time sitting next to each other in high school since we were required to sit in alphabetic order by last name. She was competitive but good natured and will be missed by her family and friends.

Trip Update

We left Sisseton at 1:15 and arrived in North Platte, Nebraska at 9:45 pm. The girls did very well together for that long in the truck:) We are staying at the Holiday Inn Express, the same hotel Courtney, mom, dad and I stayed a few years ago. We'll spend some time at the pool in the morning before leaving for Denver-only four more hours and a time change to go!

Kelsey has her friend Kylie over to play this afternoon. They are having a good time and using Skittles as their baby while playing house. It's a good thing he is so good natured:) I am doing laundry and packing as we leave tomorrow for Denver. Kelsey and Courtney both have games tonight-weather permitting. Happy Wednesday everyone!

Courtney and Hema...the Photographers

Courtney and Hema borrowed my camera yesterday and took some photos. We are having a quiet, windy day at home today. Eric is playing in a golf tournament tomorrow. Courtney starts gymnastics Monday morning and we will be leaving for Denver on Thursday. Eric and I are going to his 20th high school reunion and the girls will stay with Grandpa Ron. Tony Snow

As a political news junkie...I was very saddened to learn that Tony Snow passed away this morning. I enjoyed listening to him on the radio, watching him on FoxNews and thought he did a wonderful job as Press Secretary. He was only 53! He died after a long battle with colon cancer. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

The Girls Take Swimming Lessons

Courtney and Kelsey started swimming lessons on Monday. The lessons last for an hour Monday-Friday for two weeks. They both are having fun and have many friends in their classes. Kelsey was unsure of putting her face in the water and refused to do it...until today. I don't have any current pictures of them swimming, so I chose these from my file archive. Hope everyone is having a good week!
