Kelsey+Kindergarten=TIRED....

I couldn't resist taking this picture of Kelsey last night. She fell asleep in the car on the way home and slept until 9:30. Then she woke up, ate supper and went back to sleep.

We will be leaving Saturday morning for Shakopee. The girls are very excited about going to the American Idol Concert. Have a good weekend, everyone:)

Hillary's Pantsuit

Ok, I'm not a Hillary supporter, but I thought her fashion (orange pantsuit) and rhetoric were pretty good. My friend Carrie and I were wondering if she was wearing orange shoes as well? Did anyone see her shoes?

Baking and Other Stuff....

What a gorgeous weekend! We spent most of today outside. Eric and Kelsey worked in the yard while Courtney and I went into town and walked/rode bike on the track. Yesterday, we baked bars and made muffins. It was a nice, relaxing weekend....
I know you can't tell by the picture, but I'm wearing my 'McCain 2008' shirt-I've actually gotten some supportive comments from others when I wear it-which is surprising because this is a very 'blue' county!!

Happy Birthday Toni!

We'd like to wish Toni a very Happy Birthday!! We hope you had a great day!

Picking Apples....

The girls and I are enjoying the beautiful day. Eric is in Dell Rapids refereeing a volleyball tournament today. The girls and I checked on the apple trees in the backyard and decided to pick a few. They are pretty sour, so we probably need to wait another week to pick some more. Last night, Eric and I went to our friends cabin on Buffalo Lake for a back to school barbecue. It was pretty windy and a little cool but we had a fun time. The girls are pretty tired from their first full week of school. Have a good weekend everyone:)

The Gift....

Courtney's teacher from last year, Mrs. Ellsworth e-mailed me this morning and wanted to stop by after school to drop off a gift. She came over around 5:00 and delivered a quilt with 12 squares (one for each month) that Courtney had completed last year. Each square was either made up of her handprints or footprints. Mrs. Ellsworth made a quilt for each student in her class. It is a precious keepsake. Mrs. Ellsworth is a wonderful teacher and we are so happy Courtney had her last year. We are hoping Kelsey has her next year.

Dancin' the Night Away....

Last night, we attended Open House at Westside Elementary and met Courtney and Kelsey's teachers. The girls enjoyed seeing their new classrooms. After the Open House, we drove out to Tiospa Zina for the Back to School Wacipi or Pow-Wow.

Kelsey is very excited for the first day of Kindergarten. The bus driver made a stop by our house last week to introduce himself and let us know what time he will be picking up the girls. We will take them to school on Monday, but Tuesday they will start riding the bus to school.

The photos show the girls dancing in the kitchen to music from 'Camp Rock.' We rented a movie tonight and relaxed as a family. Have a good weekend everyone!
Shelly and Miranda-do you recognize the 'vintage' Broncos shirt?"

Circle Us, Bert!

Shelly sent this great photo of Sammy and Miranda-we love the poster and hope you had fun at the game:)

Good Friends...

Carrie, Myself, Mindy and Sheila

Sunday night I had supper with my good friends, Sheila, Carrie and Mindy. We went out to eat at the Pickeral Lake Lodge. The four of us started teaching at Tiospa Zina fourteen years ago! Carrie, Mindy and myself are still at TZ, while Sheila is the guidance counselor in Britton. We had a great time and it was nice just being together before the rush of school begins.

Courtney's Injuries Part II

Courtney fell in the driveway yesterday-I think she tripped over her flip-flop. Anyway, she scraped up her knee pretty badly. She probably should have stitches. Needless to say...she is limping around. School starts on Monday, so we're hoping it heals quickly.

Butterfly Cake

I subscribe to e-mails from kraftfoods.com and they sent me the recipe for this fun butterfly cake. Courtney wants me to make it for her birthday. I think it will be pretty simple. Here's the recipe....I'm thinking we'll make it and take it to Dan and Laurie's cabin on the 6th!

Beautiful Butterfly Cake

1 pkg. (2-layer size) yellow cake mix
1/3 cup raspberry jam
12 OREO Cookies
1 tub (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided
food coloring
1 cup fruit-flavored sweetened rice cereal
Decorations: assorted ring-shaped hard candies and Mini OREO Bite Size Chocolate Sandwich Cookies
PREPARE cake batter and bake in two 9-inch round baking pans as directed on package. Cool 10 min.; remove to wire racks. Cool completely.
CUT cakes crosswise in half. Spread two of the cake halves with jam; top with remaining two cake halves to form two stacks. To assemble, arrange cookies in center of large board or tray with edges slightly overlapping to form the "butterfly's body," securing cookies to each other with small amount of the whipped topping. Arrange cake stacks around body to resemble the butterfly's wings.
TINT remaining whipped topping with food coloring as desired. Spread onto cakes. Decorate with whipped topping, cereal, candies and cookies. Store in refrigerator.

The Run....

Getting Ready to Run----Denise, Myself and Angie
Courtney and Kelsey by the garden...

I did it!! I completed my first 5K run today. My time was 30 minutes and 1 second-which I think is pretty good for my age... We left at 6:30 this morning from our house and drove to Britton. My friends Angie and Denise ran as well. Sheila, my friend from Britton ran too. Eric, the girls and Denise's husband were great encouragers. Courtney and Kelsey ran the Munchkin race. There is another run in Ortonville next Sunday, the ladies and I may try to run that as well. The battery on the camera died out-so Eric only took one photo. Denise's husband, Cory, took some pictures that I will post when I get them.

The other photo shows the girls by the school garden. We picked one zucchini and one tomato from the plants. Eric even made zucchini bread!

Have a great weekend everyone:)

When we got home this afternoon, there were 3 packages on the porch for Kelsey. She was so excited! Aunt Nedra & Uncle Jim, Rene & Seth, and Ted & Pam had all sent her birthday gifts. She also received a princess ABC book and CD on Sunday from Warren, Ann, Andrew and Sarah that she loves:)

Eric will be home tomorrow afternoon from his trip. The girls and I will be happy to see him!

I am running a 5K in Britton on Saturday morning with my friend, Denise. Wish me luck:0

Courtney's Finger....

Can you tell which one is injured?
Couurtney with her splint

Courtney jammed and possibly sprained her pointer finger on her right hand at volleyball camp today. We iced it and put a splint on it. I hope it heals before school starts! I think Kelsey is a little jealous-she wanted a splint too:)

Getting Ready for School and Nicollet Tower

Eric helps Kelsey with her work....
Nice Job Courtney!
Kelsey's learning her address and phone number
Here's where we live....
We made it all the way to the top!

The girls spent most of the morning working on school work given to them last spring. Courtney received a Summer Bridge Activity Book and Kelsey has a Getting Ready for Kindergarten Book. Kelsey received a letter in the mail from the school stating that her teacher will be Mrs. Arbach. She is very excited!!! Courtney will find out who her teacher is on Monday.

After supper, the girls and I drove up to Nicollet Tower. Nicollet Tower is location from which you can see three states-North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Kelsey and I climbed to the top twice!! It was a nice reminder of the beauty of this area....
